MCC team wins state

Congratulations to the Mankato Curling Club team of Todd Birr, Randy Cumming, Shawn Runing and Kevin Vetter for winning the Minnesota Club State Championship. The team dropped just one game on the way to the title. The playdowns were held in Duluth.

Led by skip Todd Birr, the team went 3- 1 in pool play to earn one of the top seeds for the playoff round. The group won its playoff round in an extra end and then won the finals on the last end.

Birr has now won a state championship at every level — juniors, mixed ( twice), men’s state and men’s club. Cumming and Vetter have previously won mixed state titles. It is the first state cham pionship for Runing.

The team now advances to the National Club Championships on Feb. 20-27 in Madison, Wis.

2009-2010 Curling Club Dues

Dear Mankato Curling Club members,

Please find attached the form for this year's club dues. You may notice some differences from the past. The club is in desperate straits right now. In order to get the ice in place in time for a belated early league as well as scheduled events, we must have our new condenser installed and up and running over the next few weeks. This will require a major financial commitment from the club. As noted in a couple of previous correspondences this fall, we are not exactly rolling in the dough.

We were able to get a good deal on the condenser, however, installation costs, which also include electrical and plumbing work, are estimated to be around $35,000. We simply do not have that much available to us right now.

How can you help? By examining the form closely and committing to this year's club right now. We hope that you will send in your dues as soon as possible, whether you will be a one-night-a-week curler or an unlimited curler. The board is also offering one-time offers of a six-year membership and a lifetime membership. In the coming days you will also receive some information on tax-deductable donations that can be made to the Mankato Foundation on behalf of the club.

This is a crucial time for the club. We have been so fortunate to have such tremendous support from our members, and hope that continues. This is your club.

Thank you,
The Mankato Curling Club Board
